As part of the Green Square Development in Zetland, NSW—one of Australia’s largest urban renewal projects—Fytogreen designed, installed, and maintains a diverse suite of green infrastructure across four buildings. The project includes custom aluminium planter boxes, green facades, roof gardens, and green walls, contributing to the precinct’s environmental performance and visual identity.
A key feature is the installation of 600 custom aluminium planter boxes, covering 330.5 m² across Buildings A, B, C, and D. These planters vary in size and configuration, with planting depths ranging from 400 mm to 540 mm, and are fitted with Fytogreen’s wind retention mesh to ensure plant stability in exposed conditions. The planters support 777 plants from 9 species, enhancing biodiversity and softening the architectural form.Complementing the planters are 270 m² of green facades, installed using Tensile Trellis and Jakob Wire Rope systems, which create vertical greenery across multiple elevations. These facades contribute to air purification, thermal regulation, and urban cooling, while visually integrating the buildings with surrounding public spaces.Additional elements include:• 376 m² of roof gardens across levels 4, 5, and 13• 19 m² of fire-compliant FytoFelt green walls on Building CThe project was delivered in collaboration with Mirvac Pty Ltd, Smart Design Studio, and Mirvac Design, with completion in August 2023. Located on land traditionally owned by the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation, the development acknowledges and respects their enduring connection to Country.
This project exemplifies how layered green infrastructure—planters, facades, walls, and roofs—can be integrated into large-scale developments to support sustainability, biodiversity, and urban liveability
