This report calls on cities to become BiodiverCities by 2030, highlighting their critical role in reversing nature loss and tackling climate change. As urban areas are projected to house 75% of the global population by 2050, current patterns of nature-degrading growth are putting nearly half of city-based GDP at risk. The report presents cities as integrated living systems and emphasises nature-based solutions (NbS) as cost-effective, high-value alternatives to conventional infrastructure, despite being underfunded. Scaling up NbS can create jobs, enhance resilience and requires systems-based governance, integrated urban planning and increased investment in natural capital.
