The City of Sydney's Street Tree Master Plan 2023 provides a coordinated approach to future street tree planting. It features an interactive online map nominating tree species for footpaths, traffic islands, and median strips on each street.

The plan prioritises six key objectives: increasing canopy cover and creating resilient streets; developing a reliable species palette; increasing locally indigenous species and biodiversity; supporting community health and wellbeing; ensuring 'right tree for the right place' planting; and reinforcing precinct character. It accounts for climate change adaptation, pest and disease resilience, overhead powerlines, and narrow footpaths, whilst balancing native and exotic species.
