The UN’s special edition SDG progress report shows global efforts to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals are falling far short, with only ~12% of targets on track. Early gains—like reduced extreme poverty, lower child mortality, improved access to electricity, and increased renewables—have weakened amid COVID-19, war, and climate disasters. Many targets remain off track or regressing. If trends continue, millions will still live in poverty and hunger by 2030, gender inequalities will persist for centuries, and environmental issues like high CO₂ levels, energy access gaps, and deforestation will worsen.
